Crow & Calico Tavern Displays Living Dead Girl Nicole’s Pee Wee Art!

2

As you may recall the first sale I made from my booth at Crow & Calico’s Unruly Art Market was from Loren, the location owner. He purchased my It’s Gonna Be That Kind Of Morning, Pee Wee Herman canvas print and told me he planned to hang it in the bar.

Well after a number of intense and dangerous storms hitting our area week after week, we finally had some beautiful days this past weekend. On Sunday my husband pulled out his Trans Am and we took a ride to the cemetery to visit my Uncle’s grave, and as anyone knows its never easy celebrating the life of someone you hold so dear that is no longer with us. So Frank decided to surprise me and as we were pulling out of the cemetery he told me we were gonna take a little longer of a drive. I realized as we got closer that he was taking me to Crow & Calico. He knew I needed a much needed kitty fix from Whiskey and to cheers a drink in honor of my Uncle’s birthday.

When we went into the bar Frank pointed with excitement and said “Look! It’s your Pee Wee!” and low and behold there it was on display!

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t totally geeking out when I saw it hanging on the wall in there. I mean I know Loren told me he planned on hanging it in the bar, but to actually see it on display really brightened my day and I am truly grateful for yet another art collector that sees something special in my work.

So please if you are in the Midwest be sure to pay the Crow & Calico Tavern a visit. It’s ran by the nicest and most creative people you will ever meet and they hold so many unique events and markets there. It’s an absolute gem of a place to discover.

And if you want a canvas print of this piece for your own be sure to shop online via my Etsy shop or in person from my Cabinets of Curiosities at Closet Collectibles in Crete, IL. Troy Adds Pee Wee Vibes to Man Cave with Living Dead Girl Nicole’s Art

1

Today would’ve been Paul Reubens birthday, and what better way to celebrate this legendary icon that I love so much, then with a new Freaky Fanatic submission showcasing my Pee Wee Herman art!

Troy, one of my awesome art collectors, purchased an 8×10 canvas print of my piece “It’s Gonna Be That Kind of Mornin'”, a tribute inspired by my lifelong obsession with Pee Wee’s Playhouse. His print now proudly hangs in his man cave, where he loves to kick back and let loose. And really, what better way to unwind than with some playful, nostalgic Pee Wee vibes in the mix?!

Not only did Troy submit this great photo….

But he also submitted a short video as well…

In true Conky fashion, I leave you with the Word of the Day, and that is β€œGRATEFUL”
Grateful (are you screaming real loud?) for all of my art collectors like Troy who love what I do and proudly display my work in places that bring them joy! And grateful (did you scream real loud again?) to Paul Reubens aka Pee Wee Herman whose incredible talents brought so much joy into all of our lives that it inspired me to create the original of this art piece.

Speaking of sharing the love, if you’re new here, be sure to check out Troy’s photos and video featured alongside some of my other happy art collector submissions on my Freaky Fanatics page. “It’s Gonna Be That Kind Of Morning” a tribute to Pee Wee Herman by Artist Living Dead Girl Nicole

1

Been working hard at checking another drawing off my art bucket list. Being a kid in the 80s sure had its advantages. Everything was a lot more original back then and people were not offended over every stupid little thing. This made things a lot more adventurous and fun. Wacky, nutty and cuckoo! Just the way I still like it!

It will come as no surprise to the people who already know of my Pee Wee Herman obsession why I chose this subject matter that I did. To me, Paul Reubens created an iconic character with Pee Wee. From his stand up comedy, the unforgettable movies and of course the show Pee Wee’s Playhouse. Which might I add also contributed to my well-known puppet obsession. I mean the playhouse was in Puppetland! Can it get any better than that?

Well…. actually it does! Did you know he went to improv comedy school with my idol Elvira (Cassandra Peterson). And did you know Rob Zombie was a Production Assistant on Pee Wee’s Playhouse when he first moved to L.A.? Let’s not forget that Cowboy Curtis ended up in the Matrix, Miss Yvonne ended up mothering Charlie Kelly and Opal now rocks that famous orange jumpsuit on Netflix. These are the types of things that put everything you loved as a child and everything you love as an adult into full perspective. Ha Ha!

So, of course, Pee Wee, in general, has been on my art bucket list and I have seen so many art pieces done of him from his movies that I decided to focus mine on the show and I had a blast drawing it. Especially because I tend to watch and listen to whatever inspires the piece while I am creating it. So here it is.

I call this one “It’s Gonna Be That Kind Of Morning” A line from the theme song (done by Cyndi Lauper under a stage name) I felt it fits the vibe of the drawing and the inspiration behind it. Pee Wee’s Playhouse was one of my Saturday morning escapes as a kid. It might not be on Saturday mornings anymore, but I still watch the show as an adult and it never gets old to me. I could be having the worst day of adulting and then come home and watch the show and it lifts my spirits back up. Judge me if you will but it works for me and I dig it. I mean how can you not enjoy screaming real loud when you hear the word of the day?

So if you are just as big of a fan of Pee Wee as I am or you just love 80s nostalgia, you can get prints and t-shirts of this piece in my Amazon shop! And don’t forget to check out more of my portrait work on the Spitting Image page of my portfolio website.
