Spitting Image: Night On The Town

1

I just finished another split face portrait and just in the nick of time. See I have always wanted to draw Doug Jones but he has portrayed so many incredible characters I never could decide which one I wanted to draw. His ability to emerge himself into the makeup and transform himself into whatever character he plays not only blows my mind but is really inspiring. He is not your typical actor playing a role, he is the role.

When he appeared on the TV adaptation of my favorite show What We Do In The Shadows as Baron Afanas I knew this was the character I wanted to create on paper. The Baron makes you fear him, love him, laugh with him and mourn for him. He also has a lot of wrinkles and I knew this would not just be a typical portrait but would give me a challenge. I also thought I had time to draw him and then I heard he was added as a guest to a convention we will be attending. I got so excited to meet him that of corpse my drawing hands went to work!

I completed the art piece just in time to gift it to him this weekend. I call it “Night On The Town”

Spitting Image: Ketchup

0

originalLast year when I was vending at the Hardcore Hearse Club’s Annual Hearse Show a customer purchased a print of my “Naturally Born Bad” portrait of Juliette Lewis as Mallory Knox. They asked me if I had anything Pulp Fiction based. At the time I did not have anything but I told them I was a big fan of the film and had something visually in my mind and on my art bucket list.

My vision was focused on one of my favorite actresses, Uma Thurman (who I have drawn in the past as Poison Ivy) and her character Mia Wallace (who I had even dressed up as for Halloween a few years back). I call this newΒ Spitting Image, split face portrait … “Ketchup” and it focuses on the 2 looks we see of Mia when she has that adrenaline-filled date night with Vincent Vega.

Spitting Image: Friends Til The End

For those of you who love my “Barbie.. Eat Your Heart Out” portrait (of Jennifer Tilly/Tiffany) from Bride Of Chucky,Β Β wait until you see what I just got done checking off my art bucket list! Here’s a clue…..

Charles Lee Ray Brad Dourif Childs Play

That’s right. It’s Tiffany’s “other half” aka as Charles Lee Ray/The Lakeshore Strangler/Chucky played by Brad Dourif. I call this oneΒ “Friends Til The End”…..

I have been wanting to draw this one for a long time. Child’s Play had a big impact on me as a young horror fan. I remember it truly scaring me when I saw it for the first time (and to watch it now I can’t help but laugh thinking about it). But when Child’s Play came out I was also 7 or 8 years old. I just remember sinking into my seat trying not to look scared and watching it with one eye open and the other one partially closed. I had seen other horror films but none of the killers in those movies looked like a My Buddy doll ha ha. That was a whole new ball game for someone with a bedroom full of dolls and a puppet obsession.

When I drew this piece I kept both eyes open. I also kept all you Freaky Fanatics in mind. So for those of you that already own a print of my Tiffany portrait this piece was designed to complement that piece and you can now hang them together.

Purchase prints and ghoulish garments of this new piece in my Etsy and Amazon shops!
