National Handmade Day is Saturday April 5th!

Just a friendly reminder that National Handmade Day is April 5th! While it’s always encouraged to support handmade small businesses all year long, this Saturday is a great time to celebrate and show local artisans that you believe in them! βœοΈπŸ”«πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŽ¨βœ¨οΈ

*Price is discounted from online store prices. Etsy listings reflect the unfortunate amount of shop and transaction fees they charge us artists to sell online. If you are local or traveling to Illinois, I encourage my clients to save money and see my work on full display by shopping my artwork in person with my consignment partner, Closet Collectibles where they truly support my creative endeavors to the fullest as their resident local artist.

The Pick Of Destiny For My Destiny

0

I hand sculpted and hand painted the “Pick of Destiny” from Tenacious D for my husband Frank as a little surprise for Valentine’s Day this year.

To make it more custom I sculpted it so when you flip it over it looks as though it formed and took over one of the Axe Man’s Bridge picks we had made when his band was still together. I put a small necklace ring on the top incase he wants to hang or display it.

Needless to say he was very happy when I gifted to him and I was super excited to be able to try my hands at more sculpting.

Handmade Grottan Clan Pride

0

Leave it to my love of Jim Henson and my gelfling spirit animal Deet to inspire me creatively once again!

I am so excited to share my newest creation. For a while I have been wanting to have a Grottan Clan Sigil made and after getting more familiar with sculpting these past months I wondered if I could make one myself and if so how would I even pull it off with the design not being a conjoined sigil.

I also knew I wanted to make the center out of an actual black gemstone crystal so it would also be a grounding and protection sigil. I had planned to get something the next time I went to one of our local holistic shops and decided to put the project idea on hold until I made the trip.

Well as the universe would have it.. it brought the stone to me. I received a free gift as a thank you with my 1st Mindful Souls subscription box and it was a round black obsidian on a whimsical knit cord necklace! Seriously, it could not have been more perfect visually and with perfect timing.

I am normally not my biggest fan but actually did a little happy dance when this was fully dry. Not only because it’s what I had hoped for, but because now It will also be a reminder that I challenged myself and a reflection of my gratitude to the universe for giving me that little extra push I needed to create my vision.

Daria “I Hate It” Wood Bookmark Makes For A Memorable Handmade Gift

2

So now that the surprise is over I can finally share another art project I have been working on. This is a handmade wood bookmark I made as a contribution to a group gift for my dear friends Heather’s 40th Birthday….

Heather loves to read and she was totally bummed about having to cancel her milestone birthday party due to the COVID crisis, so her husband Mike reached our to her friends and family asking if we would each make her a special bookmark.

Since she is the Daria Morgendorffer to my Jane Lane I knew right away where I was headed theme wise. Especially since one of the things Heather and Daria have in common is their love of books and reading. Plus who better than her Jane to paint it!

My husband Frank took me to the hobby store to find the right wood. I sketched out the shape so he could cut it out with his saw and sand it. I painted, clear coated and added the tassel.

Mike collected them all and presented them all to her in a book he made with special pages made for each of them. We may not have been able to physically celebrate with her this year but Mike found a fun and creative way to make it happen! Major hubby points for sure and this was so much fun to make and be a part of!

Dig this? Make sure to check out this bookmark and other misc. creations on the Remains page of my portfolio website!
