Pop Culture Icon Barrettes!

0

I really enjoy going treasure hunting with my husband at flea markets, garage sales, antiques stores and collectible shops etc. This little hobby of ours is actually how I ended up being so blessed to have the owner of Closet Collectibles ask me to put my art up on display in his store.

Whenever we go out I look for things I can resurrect aka upcycle into art. Lately I have been looking to make some new Pop Culture inspired Dead Girl Decay barrettes and I succeeded to make 4 new ones!

I call them “I’ll Be In My Room”, “Moi”, “There Is No Try” and “I Am Vengeance”….

Like all my Limited Edition pre-made creations there is only 1 of each of these because I like everything to be one-of-a-kind. I personally am drawn to what is unique (pun intended) and try to give that back to others with my creations. It is why when I am looking for something in particular or want something different I do so by supporting other artists or small businesses. Who wants the same thing everyone else has at the store when they can have something unique that no one else has and is handmade with the hands, heart and soul of an artist. Especially when they are passionate about the subject matter.

These 4 barrettes here are now available for purchase in my online Etsy shop and will soon be available to purchase at Closet Collectibles in Crete IL. to give people the option to purchase them in person. So once they are gone they are gone.

Be sure to check out some of the other accessories I have made in the Dead Girl Decay section of my official portfolio website. Many of the themed and pop culture ones you see on my site were actually commissioned by clients as custom orders. So if you are looking for something in particular let’s talk!

What pop culture icons do you want to see me make into Dead Girl Decay wearable art next? Leave me a comment and I may just “make” that happen (pun intended.. yet again).

Back Bone: Keep It Handmade Animal Themed Auction

2

As you all know I love to use my talents to help others in need. I was recently asked to take part in another Instagram Online Artist Auction. This one being a little different then the last as one item must be donated to help a feline friend in need. As a cat mom who has had to spend a lot of money trying to save her own furbabies I could definitely relate and immediately jumped on board.

So with all that said, if you are on Instagram please follow @keepithandmade I will have these 3 items in their upcoming animal themed #artist #auction starting Nov. 13th!

When the auction goes live, look for the special items with paw prints. Those are the items specifically donated by the participating artists to help raise money for kitty Peeta. Which means you can get some holiday shopping done while helping a great cause and supporting artists all at the same time! Win! Win! and Win!

See other ways I have used my artwork to give back in the Back Bone section of my portfolio website!

Spitting Image: I Am Batman

3

071512batman-dngnkSo I have been wanting to do a split face Batman portrait for a long time. I always imagined that if I did draw it I would choose my 2 favorites……Michael Keaton and Adam West. Well the best opportunity presented itself to me and pushed me forward to get this portrait done and off my bucket list. That inspiration was my best friend Regina.

See Regina has been a friend of mine since freshman year of high school. I am the fairy goth mother (aka godmother) of her ava-7th-bday-2016-3daughter Ava Nicole (see that middle name.. its after me). ย She was the maid of honor in my wedding.. although she didn’t end up making it down the aisle as she was in the hospital having Ava ha ha. Miles apart or time passes and we are still just as close as we ever were.ย We have been through so many fun times, got each other through the worse of times and have shared so many milestone moments.

Well, Regina is going through one of those milestone moments right now with the purchase of her very own home.ย She has been a renter for many years and can finally purchase a house. Knowing her for so long I know what a huge step this is for her and I am super proud of her. I decided to make her the most unique house warming gift I could think of. Seeing she is the biggest Batman fan I know and has been for as long as I have known her, I decided to push myself to do that Batman split portrait for her! All she knew was I was making her something for a housewarming gift but didn’t know of what. That was until I finished it and sent her a photo of it today.

Her reaction “OHHHHHH my god! I LOVE IT!”

I call it “I Am Batman” (as Regina and I both feel these 2 are the real Batmans ha ha). It was done in pencil, charcoal and pastel chalks.

Batman Logo

I am looking forward to giving it to her in person this weekend! Prints and t-shirts will be available in my Etsy Shop for you fellow Batman geeks out there!
