Spitting Image: 9 Lives

2

I’m back behind the drawing pencil again. It had been way too long.

I had always wanted to do a portrait of Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Batman Returns has always been my favorite of all Batman movies (still is).ย I just felt that Tim Burton brought the Gotham I always invisioned to life if that film. I still even use my Catwoman cup from McDonald’s that I have had since I was a kid. It has been my cup I use when I paint for rinsing my brushes. I just can’t seem to part with it no matter how much paint gets in it ha ha. Am I a huge Batman fanatic … no but I have a lot of love for this film and Michelle’s portrayal of the character.ย I find her to be the most convincing and sexiest version of Catwoman. Everyone that has tried to play her since just hasn’t fit the bill to me. She was so convincing and fit the role so well that no one seems to compare.

That is until the TV show Gotham. Camren Bicondova as a young Selina is like watching a younger version of Michelle on my TV screen each week. So impressed on the casting of this beautiful and talented young actress. They really couldn not have found any one better for this role. When I see her on Gotham I picture her older self as Michelle’s version of the character in Batman Returns. Which is what inspired this new piece,

I call this one 9 Lives…..

Spitting Image | I Had Wings Once

Well Freaky Fanatics I finished another portrait based off of my love of movies. Or more less my all time favorite fairy tale villain…. Maleficent. She has been my favorite fairy tale villain since I was a kid. Although my love of Kristin Bauer as Maleficent in Once Upon A Time is well known. Or my love of Kristin Bauer in general is well known…. I decided that since I already drew her as Pam and I have always wanted to show my appreciation for Angelina Jolie I would go a different route with my favorite villain portrait. I have always admired Angelina Jolie not only for her acting but for standing out as a unique individual. There is something I also share deeply with Angelina and that is loosing our mother’s to cancer and the void that we both feel. Her decision to get a masectomy is a very familiar thing to me. Not because I have had one but I have been asked by my doctors to decide if I should ever want to get tested to see if I carry the breast cancer gene. If so a masectomy would be the end result for me as well. I have chosen to not children and at this point have not made a definite decision if I will ever get tested, however I highly respect and look up to Angelina for her decision to do so for her children.

With that I call this one “I Had Wings Once”…..

Wizard World Fan Fest Chicago 2015

3

You may have gotten the hint from Friday’sย post that I was preparing for a big day on Saturday!

I felt like a giddy fang banger in line at Wizard World Fan Fest yesterday. I had my hot pink and white zebra print gift bag all ready (thanks to my sister in law for the killer bag she wrapped my birthday present in last month). Inside was my original “Bite Me” portrait of Pam ready to hand over to the amazingly talented Kristin Bauer. As many of you know she is one of my favorite actresses and her portrayal of one of my favorite book characters has impressed me over and over again. First Pam and now my favorite fairy tale villain Maleficent. I just can’t get enough of her.

Everyone knows howย beautiful Kristin Bauer is on the big screen but in person WOW! Seriously WOW! Then to top it off she was just incredibly sweet and grateful for the drawing I gave her. She thanked me and asked if I would like it in the photo op we were about to take. She then thanked me again before I walked away and gave me a hug. First Rose McGowan in November and now another girl crush hug from Kristin Bauer! All unexpected and as a thank yous for my art gifts.ย WIN!

Since I knew I wouldn’t get a lot of time to talk to her during the photo op and couldn’t afford another ticket for the autograph line I decided to put a card in the bag telling her that the drawing was a token of my admiration and a thank you for inspiring me to use my talent to help others.

As you may already know from my past posts that I reached out to Kristin’s team a while back and a portion of the proceeds received from selling any of my Pam inspired creationsย in my Etsy shop (including prints of this portrait I just gifted to her) will go to The Amanda Foundation. One of Kristin’s favorite foundations to help. You can read more about it in my past post here.
