A Tribute to “Those People In Those Pink, Cotton Candy Cocoons” by Artist Living Dead Girl Nicole

6

Most people know that I have quite the infatuation for all things circusy. Top it off with campy horror and it is quite the recipe of giddiness for me. So it is no surprise to most people that I have always had a deep love and appreciation for the movie Killer Klowns From Outer Space. I mean what other movie incorporates walking a balloon animal dog on a leash!

It really was great getting to be a kid in the 80s, surrounded by so much weird, creative energy and it’s been great growing up and being able to appreciate the things from my childhood on a whole new level. For instance, having the honor of meeting Mike Martinez aka Rudy (my faveπŸ‘½πŸ€‘) and Harrod Blank aka Slim at Flashback Weekend a couple years ago. You can tell by the look on my face in the picture below what a milestone moment this was for me. That recipe of giddiness in full force.

As with most pop culture, horror, and fantasy things that I love, I had been wanting to create something I had envisioned from the movie, but was not sure how I was going to go about making it. Let’s just say I have been researching supplies for the past year.

And that’s when we went inside, and that is when we saw those people in those…Β those pink, cotton candy cocoons.Β Dave, it was not a circus tent.Β It was something else.

For a while now I have been working on variations in between other projects and finally found the base that worked best for what I was trying to create. With the help of my amazing, engineer of a husband (who was able to get the tubing to work the way I wanted them to) I was finally able to bring what I was envisioning in my brain to life and am so happy with the way they turned out.

I present to you my Limited Edition Cotton Candy Cocoon Ornaments….

Pink Cotton Candy Cocoon Killer Klown Ornaments by Living Dead Girl Nicole

They measure approximately 8″ from the bottom to the top of the hook. Unfortunately you can’t drink the essence of the person inside them as they’ve been pretty drained already, however they make pretty rad handmade horror decor for your home. I have even been considering making some to be displayed next to my own Killer Klown collection of figurines, Funkos, etc.

There are currently only 2 of these ornaments pre-made and listed inΒ my Etsy shop. They will also be available to see in person and purchased at a discounted rate* when I make my next art drop off atΒ Closet Collectibles in Crete, IL this weekend. In other words, be sure to get one while you can.

*Price is discounted from online store prices. Etsy listings reflect the unfortunate amount of shop and transaction fees they charge us artists to sell online. If you are local or traveling to Illinois, I encourage my clients to save money and see my work on full display by shopping my artwork in person with my consignment partner, Closet Collectibles where they truly support my creative endeavors as their resident local artist.

The Pick Of Destiny For My Destiny

0

I hand sculpted and hand painted the “Pick of Destiny” from Tenacious D for my husband Frank as a little surprise for Valentine’s Day this year.

To make it more custom I sculpted it so when you flip it over it looks as though it formed and took over one of the Axe Man’s Bridge picks we had made when his band was still together. I put a small necklace ring on the top incase he wants to hang or display it.

Needless to say he was very happy when I gifted to him and I was super excited to be able to try my hands at more sculpting.

See this creation and more of my rocking creations on the Remains page of my portfolio website!

Handmade Grottan Clan Pride

0

Leave it to my love of Jim Henson and my gelfling spirit animal Deet to inspire me creatively once again!

I am so excited to share my newest creation. For a while I have been wanting to have a Grottan Clan Sigil made and after getting more familiar with sculpting these past months I wondered if I could make one myself and if so how would I even pull it off with the design not being a conjoined sigil.

I also knew I wanted to make the center out of an actual black gemstone crystal so it would also be a grounding and protection sigil. I had planned to get something the next time I went to one of our local holistic shops and decided to put the project idea on hold until I made the trip.

Well as the universe would have it.. it brought the stone to me. I received a free gift as a thank you with my 1st Mindful Souls subscription box and it was a round black obsidian on a whimsical knit cord necklace! Seriously, it could not have been more perfect visually and with perfect timing.

I am normally not my biggest fan but actually did a little happy dance when this was fully dry. Not only because it’s what I had hoped for, but because now It will also be a reminder that I challenged myself and a reflection of my gratitude to the universe for giving me that little extra push I needed to create my vision.

See more of my magical creations that incorporate healing crystal gemstones on the Spellbinding page of my portfolio website. Are you a fan of The Dark Crystal as well? Then don’t forget to check out my “I Will Carry On” Deet portrait on the Spitting Image page too!

New Exclusive Items at Closet Collectibles!

This weekend I did my art drop off at Closet Collectibles in Crete IL!

Living Dead Girl Nicole with her art displayed at Closet Collectibles in Crete Illinois

Betty my 50’s inspired undead doll and my Walk On The Wild Side portrait giclee print made their debut as well as another exclusive item I made just for their shoppers!

Exclusive as in this is another item that will not be available to purchase online but will only be available to buy in person at their store! A great way to get something unique, while shopping small, local and supporting an artist all at the same time.

This exclusive item is my Caged Cannibal Scary Fairies! They come freshly fed and ready for their new caretaker and can be hung up for display! A mix of my love for whimsy and horror all rolled into one creepy magical creation! You can see more photos on the Remains page of my portfolio website as well as a little video on Youtube.

While I was there I also re-stocked my sold out giclee art prints of my Spitting Image portraits and added some new one of a kind Dead Girl Decay barrettes to replace others that have sold and am already in the works of masterminding some more!

My husband Frank also shopped their wide range of horror figurines while I did my drop off. He picked up a They Live Rody Piper figure and the Flasher Gremlin figure we have been wanting to add to our collection.

In other words don’t waste your time at places like Spirit Halloween or big box stores for horror decor this spooky season. I for one witnessed Spirit Halloween’s selection and call it “same shit, different year”. Closet Collectibles offers way more unique items and supports their local artists! They also love to buy and trade for their non art related items. So if you are looking to get rid of something from your collection for something else this is the place is an all around win win! Not to mention Chris and Michelle are seriously the nicest folks you could do business with! Go show them some love and tell them Living Dead Girl Nicole sent ya!
