Back Bone: Trish’s Benefit

0

We had a wonderful time last weekend at Trish’s Breast Cancer Benefit. I wanted to share some photos I got while we were there.

Just me and the love of my life… my hubby Frank, having a good time.

He was quite excited when they called his raffle ticket for the booze basket ha ha

This is my raffle basket on the table amongst over 50 other prizes that people donated (how awesome is that?!). The photo next to it is of Trish’s daughter Ava and the woman who hosted the event raffling my basket off to the winner.

These are just some general shots that show the great turn out of people there to support her cause!  I was so happy to see how great the turn out was for her!

Backbone: Win My Handmade Creations At Trish’s Breast Cancer Benefit This Weekend!

4

From either personally knowing me or reading my posts it is obvious that breast cancer is something that has personally effected my life in a dramatic way. With my Mom passing away from the disease when I was 10 it has had a huge impact on me in ways I can not even begin to explain. Being 35 (the age she was when she was diagnosed), having a recent scare of my own and her birthday coming up this Saturday it is easy to say that the thought of breast cancer is pretty fresh in my mind these days.

trishHowever it is also on my mind because my friend Trish is fighting the same battle my Mom did. Just like her she is fighting this at a young age while raising raising 2 beautiful children. She continues to be an inspiration to everyone with her positive “I’m gonna kick this cancer’s ass” attitude!

When I heard they were having a benefit for her I had to find a way to help. One glance at the Back Bone page of my portfolio it’s pretty obvious that I enjoy using my artistic skills to help great causes. Especially after facing my own serious health scares and seeing how people pulled together to help me get through them. It’s scary enough to have something so serious effecting you physically and yet trying not to stress over the cost it all takes to get well. The help of others made a huge impact on my recovery. I urge you to come out and support this strong amazing woman and her family. From my own personal experience I can tell you that every bit counts!

With that I made a basket of my handmade creations that I am donating. It will be a part of the prizes raffled off this Sunday, July 24th at Evil Horse Brewery in Crete IL from 2- 5pm! So if you ever wanted to get your hands on some of my creations now you can attend a fun event, buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a whole basket of them all while helping a great cause!

Remains: 10 Year Anniversary Gift

1

Over the weekend we drove out to visit our friends Mike and Heather. We joined them along with their other friends and family to celebrate their milestone 10 year wedding anniversary.

Heather’s Instagram post showing all of us at their wedding in 2006 and then all of us celebrating their anniversary now in 2016

My husband and I decided to make them a gift. I got to thinking of various ideas and then it hit me.. our recent Philly trip with them!!  Then I thought how perfect it would be to make one of our wood wall hangings of the Philly Love statue. Not only because it says Love on it but also because we shared a pretty funny adventure trying to see the real thing (due to road construction and a man dressed like Jesus preaching and praying with people around it). Needless to say we did a lot of drive by photo taking of the statue and never actually got to see it up close.

So Frank and I got to work. He got the wood, I drew it out, he used the saw to cut it out, he sanded it and then I painted it. We decided to use a gloss top coat to seal it because the real statue is actually very reflective and shiny.

They loved the gift. Heather opened it and immediately started to crack up. She totally “got it”. She even started planning out where she wants to hang it in the house.

It was a great time with great friends. So happy to have them in our lives. Here is to many more years of friendship as we all grow old together.

Spitting Image: “Invite Me In”

1

tumblr_m46jidend31qaq0qfMy latest creation is a Spitting Image portrait I call “Invite Me In”. It is inspired by the scene in True Blood where Jessica Hambry “trick or treats” her way over to Jason’s house dressed as Red Riding Hood. In this scene you finally realize that even though she still has an innocence about her she isn’t the same baby vamp she was when she first hit our TV screens.

I used a combination of photo shoot photos of Deborah Ann Woll as well as screen shots from this particular scene to draw off of. I also found her “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf” Vlog to be incredibly fun to watch and use for inspiration. This is the the end result that I hope to give to Deborah at Comicon. Which will make her the 3rd of the cast that I have had the honor to meet and give my work to (Pam/Kristin Bauer and Russel/Denis O’Hare being the other 2)
