Spitting Image: Twisted

5

Even though I created American Mary themed Dead Girl Decay Barrettes for the Soska Sisters, I wanted to pay tribute to them again through my portrait work. And what better time thanย now… Women In Horror Month! A cause both the Twisted Twins and myself support every year!

After meeting them in November and having the opportunity to finally talk to them in person, I gained an even higher level of respect for them (didn’t think that was possible with how much I already admired them). The fact that they remembered me from the barrettes I made for them and being able to have fun with them talking about my intestines and surgery just goes to show how incredible they are to the fans who support what they do. And just talking to them you could tell how sweet they are in general.

Living Dead Girl Nicole & Husband Frank finally meet the Soska Sisters

The Soska Sisters have done a lot of impressive work in their careers but to me, their true masterpiece is American Mary. Yes, some may think it’s because of my girl crush on Katharine Isabelle but honestly, I loved everything about this film. All the symbolism (seriously watch the commentary) and how they truly put their hearts and souls into this film is prevalent when you watch it. You know you are watching a film created by horror fans for horror fans.ย  I was so sick of all the unimaginative over CGI’d versions of old movies (grrr remakes) and I remember thinking the first time I watched it… “this is the breath of bloody fresh air the horror movie community has been craving”.

So with that, I decided to create a portrait that emulated everything I love about Jen and Sylvia Soska and the movie American Mary. I could not resist drawing them as their cameo appearance as the Demon Twins Of Berlin. I call this portrait Twisted…..

Creature Feature: Blick Wearable Art Contest

0

Blick ย is running a Wearable Art Contest! Which as we know is right up my alley. The winner receives a nice art supply prize package that I can definitely use as well!

If you have a Facebook account please go here http://bit.ly/2xZwmjO and show my Hellraiser Cenobite Dead Girl Decay Barrette some entry love!

I chose this particular piece because it is still one of the funnest, wearable art commission pieces I have made to date. I am sure I will be one of the few whose entry comes from the dark side, but I hope to make Clive Barker and Doug Bradley proud! Plus, when haven’t my creations stood out from the norms ๐Ÿ˜‰

HellRaiser

This is a commission piece I completed for a Hellraiser horror movie fan. The center symbolizes Doug Bradley as Pinhead. It was made from Fimo Clay and hand painted to give it depth. Small nails were used as “pins”. The flower petals were all artificial flowers in various shades of blues, black and greys that were alternated between pieces of of patent leather snakeskin fabric that I cut to look like petals as well. I took necklace chain to symbolize the torture chains used in the film and of course splattered it with red paint to give that blood effect that all horror fans love! The customer was beyond happy with the end result.

Baby Gets A Makeover!

2

So in 2006 I was probably one of the first people to get a Baby Firefly tattoo. I remember sharing it with Sheri Moon Zombie on Myspace and she was in awe that someone would get her movie character as a tattoo and she featured it on her page. She even eventually featured it on the Total Skull website when it launched as well. Then before you knew it House of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects tattoos were everywhere.

The thing about my tattoo was it wasn’t suppose to be a portrait version of her. It was suppose to be an representation of the character but in a traditional pin up girl style and pose. My tattoo artist at the time came up with the drawing and so it began. It didn’t really turn out as traditional as I had wanted it to but it worked. The downfall is that over the years the tattoo didn’t stickย well and some of the features even bled out. I take overly good care of my ink with sunblock and such so it was just time and possibly just the way the ink was originally done.

So it’s 10 years later and I have been putting off getting something done with this tattoo. I went to Dave Togtman at Black Devil Tattoo who happens to be a long time friend of my husband and opened his own shop last year (we actually had Frankenhearse on display at their opening party). My goal was to see if we could transform what I had into a neo traditional style tattoo and hopefully magically bring it back to life some how. The reason I thought neo traditional would work is because it can incorporate theย traditional old school colors and pin up style my tattoo already had but could also have cartoonish like qualities if needed and thick lines that could hopefully fix the bleed out.

I have to say I am really happy with what he has done so far! He started working on it yesterday. His goal being lets get her cleaned up first and then go from there to add to it etc. As you will see from the collage below (and mind you this is a large tattoo on my leg so perspective is a little off on each photo) it goes from 2006 when the tattoo was first done, to the 2016 photo I sent to Dave of it sadly needing to be fixed and then the new neo traditional style work he did last night.

Living Dead Girl Nicole’s Baby Firefly Tattoo Transformation Part 1

He wants to see how it heals and then we are going to do another session ย that will incorporate background that will make it look even more neo traditional and other elements I want to add to it. One of them he actually already designed for me and showed me last night. Needless to say I am stoked to get it added! I will wait until he does it to share what it is. Now to take care of this swollen leg and prepare for the kankle that comes with it ha ha.

Creature Feature: 500 To 1 on Sheri Moon Zombie’s Website

8

In May I had the honor of having Sheri Moon Zombie post my Tasty portrait on her website and social media pages. I decided to send her my latest 500 To 1 piece that I just finished last night. Woke up this morning to see she has featured it and even referred to me as one of her “fav fans” ๐Ÿ™‚

Here areย screen shots of it on her site and social media pages. Please click on them to be brought to the page and show my work as well as Sheri some love for sharing it with her followers.
