Days Of The Dead 2016

5

Well the anticipation is over. This past weekend was mine and Frank’s belated anniversary celebration. We decided to hold off doing something for our anniversary (Halloween) and splurge for Days of The Dead since it was only a few weeks after! It worked out perfectly. We got a hotel room and had a blast.

The hi light of the trip was giving Alice Cooper my Zombie Alice head prop. I prepared like I did for Chandler Riggs and made a special box to put Zombie Alice in. I decided that “I’ll Bite Your Face Off” was the perfect song title to use on the outside. I then just painted the box in the colors that are used on the shirt her wears on stage/on his album cover.

Due to the fan chaos of him being there we decided to only stand through one long line for the photo op and not do the autograph line. We were smart to do it on Friday because as expected Saturday was absolutely insane. Another reason it was smart to just get the hotel for the whole weekend and not stress. This was me in our hotel room just moments before going to get in line for the photo op. I was stoked!

We stood in line for quite a while because it was a bit of a cluster at first. The staff working were a little bombarded on what to do with all of us. Once they got the hang of things and Alice arrived things moved a lot more quickly. When Frank and I walked up to him and I handed him Zombie Alice. His first reaction was “Wow! You made this!” and then he shook my hand. Then I told him I made it for HIM he said “It’s gonna be so fun getting this on the plane when I fly home” ha ha. He was making little jokes with everyone that walked up to meet him and was so laid back and easy going. It really was a “nightmare” come true. We have never been able to afford the meet and greets at his concert so even though we only got a brief moment with him it was an incredible experience.

The next thing on our list was to play catch up with my dear friend and favorite “clown” Sid Haig. We waited until his line died down for a little bit on Saturday to stop by and shoot the shit with him. Of course I had to get a picture to add to my millions of Sid moment photos. sid-haig-9
It was so nice to see him once again and catch up. He said he really liked my Halloween costume and I of course thanked him for my hot dog shirt. It went by too quickly as the line started to build again from us chit chatting and we didn’t want to hold up all the people looking forward to meeting him (and some for the first time). A girl who was buying something at a vending table later on in the day went on to me about what a class act Sid was and how some others were not so kind. I didn’t bother to tell her how many wonderful memories I have had with him since 2004 and how I now consider him and Suzie friends. Instead I let her ramble and agreed 110% with her. I remember how it felt to meet him for the first time and I remember feeling the exact same way about him. It’s so great to see people getting that same feeling from him all these years later. There are some celebs you meet at these things that just seem to go through the motions and some who you know really care about their fans. Sid cares and always has. He is a rare gem!

While visiting him we had him sign us a mini bucket of Captain Spaulding chicken. He had them for sale at his table and are replicas of the ones used in the Rob Zombie Pin Ball machine. One of the most meaningful things we got all weekend.

Another meaningful piece was this statue we saw that immediately drew our attention because it made us think of our departed Sabbath (Sabby Girl). See she liked to spill things just for fun. This included always trying to knock over my cup of water/brushes when I would paint. She also had a bad habit of knocking her water bowl across the kitchen or spilling cups we left out over night. She would tip them over, watch it spill and literally walk away. She was crazy but we loved her.

We bought a lot of other really cool things. I won’t bore you by listing them here but if you really want to know leave a comment and I can fill you in. I know some of my fellow horror fanatics might find them amusing! The vendors there had a great variety. We got life like props, t-shirts, limited edition collectibles etc. Here are just a few pics we posted on Instagram during our con venturing showing off a few.

Overall this past weekend at Days of the Dead was the perfect little getaway to celebrate our belated 7 year wedding anniversary. So memorable!

Artist Shout Out: Six Gables

2

As you all know, I do Artist Shout Out posts when I come across a handmade creation or art piece that blows me away. It allows me to share with my customers and followers my appreciation for other artists I have discovered. Well my recent purchase from Deana of Six Gables made me turn on the laptop and start typing!

All I had to do was search Etsy for monsters (of course) and before I knew it I was looking for monster bags. In the feed I noticed furry faces and immediately contacted Deana about doing a custom order for me. See I love my scary horror monsters but as most of you already know I have a total Jim Henson and Muppet obsession. I also love me some colorful fun fur and her shop was full of it. Just like her bags, Deana is imaginative and fun to work with. You tell her what colors you like and the attitude you want your monster to have and anything your into and she goes to work. My requests were for the monster to be a boy, to have purple fur, lime green horns/eyes, and of course my love for the macabre incorporated for the inside fabric. She was awesome enough to send me a photo when my Nom Nom Monster bag was done. The turn around was insanely quick!

As soon as I saw the package had arrived in the mail I tore it open. To my surprise there was an adorable note inside that told me all about my new monster friend… Arturo!

I of course was a total cheese ball the minute I saw him. He was perfect. Just looking at him screamed “Hi Nicole, I was made for you! Love me!” and I could not be happier.

Living Dead Girl Nicole and Arturo

One of the things I noticed right away was how the craftsmanship was on point! For how quick the turn around was it is still durable, made of high quality materials and you can tell Deana is a master at her trade.

The inside of Arturo has this awesome sugar skull fabric as well as the pockets made of dancing skeleton material to satisfy my love for the macabre by still keeping it cute. Not to mention the adorable red leather tongue and white teeth! The bag I chose was the larger bag and as you can see it holds all of my stuff including my medications, glasses case and all the rest of my junk perfectly.

I have already started to use the bag regularly and have gotten a ton of compliments on it. I even refer to digging something out of my purse as “let’s see if Arturo ate it” ha ha. I can’t express how all around fun this bag is and how awesome Deana is to work with. I highly recommend contacting her if you want a monster of your own or are looking for a Christmas gift for that unique person in your life! She has plenty of items available in her shop that are ready to ship. She does them in various sizes including large bags like Arturo, medium size bags, and sporran hip bags! You can even have a girl monster made with a cute little bow on her head!

Contact Deana at Six Gables and adopt your own monster friend today! Make sure to tell her Living Dead Girl Nicole sent you! You can also find her on Facebook!

Adopt The Undead: Zombie Alice

1

So I put the finishing touches on my latest zombie creation last weekend but then felt under the weather and was down for the count for a couple of days. So… I waited until this weekend to take a trip to the cemetery and got some good shots of it. Let’s just say, “No More Mr. Nice Guy” here!

Behold Zombie Alice Cooper…….

I can not wait until this weekend. I am already counting down the days! Stay tuned!

Baby Gets A Makeover!

2

So in 2006 I was probably one of the first people to get a Baby Firefly tattoo. I remember sharing it with Sheri Moon Zombie on Myspace and she was in awe that someone would get her movie character as a tattoo and she featured it on her page. She even eventually featured it on the Total Skull website when it launched as well. Then before you knew it House of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects tattoos were everywhere.

The thing about my tattoo was it wasn’t suppose to be a portrait version of her. It was suppose to be an representation of the character but in a traditional pin up girl style and pose. My tattoo artist at the time came up with the drawing and so it began. It didn’t really turn out as traditional as I had wanted it to but it worked. The downfall is that over the years the tattoo didn’t stick well and some of the features even bled out. I take overly good care of my ink with sunblock and such so it was just time and possibly just the way the ink was originally done.

So it’s 10 years later and I have been putting off getting something done with this tattoo. I went to Dave Togtman at Black Devil Tattoo who happens to be a long time friend of my husband and opened his own shop last year (we actually had Frankenhearse on display at their opening party). My goal was to see if we could transform what I had into a neo traditional style tattoo and hopefully magically bring it back to life some how. The reason I thought neo traditional would work is because it can incorporate the traditional old school colors and pin up style my tattoo already had but could also have cartoonish like qualities if needed and thick lines that could hopefully fix the bleed out.

I have to say I am really happy with what he has done so far! He started working on it yesterday. His goal being lets get her cleaned up first and then go from there to add to it etc. As you will see from the collage below (and mind you this is a large tattoo on my leg so perspective is a little off on each photo) it goes from 2006 when the tattoo was first done, to the 2016 photo I sent to Dave of it sadly needing to be fixed and then the new neo traditional style work he did last night.

Living Dead Girl Nicole’s Baby Firefly Tattoo Transformation Part 1

He wants to see how it heals and then we are going to do another session  that will incorporate background that will make it look even more neo traditional and other elements I want to add to it. One of them he actually already designed for me and showed me last night. Needless to say I am stoked to get it added! I will wait until he does it to share what it is. Now to take care of this swollen leg and prepare for the kankle that comes with it ha ha.
